In this global marketplace there are many reasons you would need to know how to call India. Whether it is talking to family in Delhi or business in Bangalore or just planning a trip to the Taj Mahal more and more people are making calls to India.
The task can be easy or daunting. Knowing the correct area code of the city you are calling is the first thing to confirm. But you will first want to determine which calling method makes the most sense for you.
If money is not an issue for you, dial from your telephone. But it generally is an issue for everyone, and cell phone rates are generally exorbitantly high. So you will want to go online and buy an India telephone card. A calling card to India will save an incredible amount of money on the call.
There are many India calling cards on the market, but the biggest caveat is to buy one without all the “gimmicks” that will add to the price. Next, check out the customer service. If there are no live operators, be careful.
Then follow these simple four steps:
Step 1
If calling from a land or mobile line without an international calling card, simply dial 011, the international access code for people calling from the United States. If you opt to use a card, follow the instructions on the back of the card before dialing 011.
Step 2
Dial 91, the country code of India.
Step 3
Dial the area code of the location you are trying to reach. Below is a list of Indian cities with their corresponding area codes. Ahmedabad 79; Amristsar 183; Banga 1825; Bangalore 80; Bar 293742; Baroda 265; Bhopal 755; Mumbai (Bombay) 22; Calcutta 33; Chandigarh 172; Delhi 11; Hyderabad 40; Jaipur 141; Jullundur 181; Kanpur 512; Madras 44; New Delhi 11; Poo 1785; Poona 212; Pune 20; and Surat 261.
Step 4
Dial the remainder of the telephone number. To review: 011 + 91 + area code plus the phone number.
That is how to call India.
